BURKINA: KASSOUM KAMBOU APPOINTED TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL COUNCIL

The exceptional grade magistrate and advise until the Commercial Chamber of the Supreme Court, Kassoum Kambou, also former president of the Independent Inquiry Committee on the Zongo case was brought to the head of the Council constitutional by the President of Burkina Faso Michel Kafando, according to the Report of the Council of Ministers of the February 11, 2015.

Kassoum Kambou replaces Albert De Millogo named to the institution’s head by former President Blaise Compaoré. It will have the difficult task of leading the institution that enjoys the compliance of various laws passed in Burkina with the Constitution, but especially the delicate mission to validate or invalidate ultimately the results of presidential elections.

From what we know of the new President of the Constitutional Council, a member of the Burkinabe Movement for Human Rights and Peoples (MBDHP) and the Union of Burkinabe magistrates. He was several times a member of the Supreme Council of the Magistracy (CSM).

He especially was a member and president of the Independent Commission of Inquiry set up to shed light on the murder of journalist Norbert Zongo in Burkina Faso in 1998.

Remember, the presidential and legislative elections in Burkina are scheduled to take place October 11, 2015.
