Adli Mansour named head of Egypt’s constitutional court
The General Assembly of the Supreme Constitutional Court agreed on Sunday to appoint Counselor Adli Mansour as head of Egypt’s high court.
Mansour, who was serving as the first deputy head of the court, will succeed Counselor Maher al-Beheiry, who will reach retirement age on June 30.
According to Law 43/2011, the president of Egypt should choose one of the three longest-serving deputies to be the president of the court but after the approval of the court’s general assembly.
Before that, the president of Egypt was entitled to pick the head of the court even from outside the court panel and without taking the permission of the General Assembly.
