Abdoulaye Ly Diori Kadidiatou appointed President of the Constitutional Court of Niger
The lawyer Abdoulaye Ly Kadidiatou Diori was appointed head of the Constitutional Court of Niger, the country’s highest court on the interpretation of the Basic Law and electoral disputes,
Armed with a doctorate in public law, the lawyer who has served on the Constitutional Court, replaces the retired magistrate Bazeye Salifou, which was illustrated in 2009, invalidating the decision of the former president Mamadou Tandja to run for a third term, in defiance of the Constitution.
The new President of the Constitutional Court is known for its activism in women’s organizations she represented several times in this institution before being recently appointed by President Mahamadou Issoufou.
This fifties, mother, is the widow of former minister Abdoulaye Diori Advisor, Chairman of the GDR and the eldest son of the first president of Niger.
The seven members of the Constitutional Court of Niger, the highest court suspended since 18 February 2010 during a military coup, took the oath on March 25, in the presence of the President of the Republic
Under the Constitution, the Constitutional Court is competent to adjudicate disputes arising from elections as well as the interpretations of laws regarding their compliance with the Basic Law.
