Tayeb Bélaïz appointed President of the Constitutional Council of Algeria
The President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, appointed on February 10, 2019, Tayeb Belaiz, at the head of the Constitutional Council, replacing the late Mourad Medelci.
This appointment comes in accordance with Article 183 of the 2016 Constitution which states that “The President of the Republic designates, for a single term of 8 years, the President and Vice-President of the Constitutional Council”.
Mr. Bélaïz had already held this position before being appointed, between 2013 and 2015, Minister of the Interior and Local Authorities.
Born on 21 August 1948 in Maghnia (Tlemcen), Mr. Bélaïz began his professional career in the foreign service of the Ministry of the Interior, before joining the justice sector by first occupying the position of magistrate for 25 years. years, then that of president of the Court of Oran and Sidi Bel Abbès as well as that of adviser to the Supreme Court.
In 2002, Mr. Bélaïz was appointed Minister of Employment and National Solidarity, and in 2003, Minister of Justice.
Before this appointment at the head of the Constitutional Council, he held the post of Minister of State, special adviser to the President of the Republic
